OSA4-M For Military Vehicle Fluids Analysis

Fleet readiness and reduced vehicle malfunctions is the motivation for every Military installation to have an OSA4-M in their motor pool. The OSA4-M Analyzer is a table-top self-contained oil analysis lab that measures wear metals and the physical properties of the lubricants. Within the OSA4-M are both an arc-spark emission spectrometer (AE) and an infrared module (IR). An optional internal Dual Temp Viscometer (40c / 100c) is also available for special applications.

The AE works by ionizing contaminating wear metals in the oil with a high voltage arc inducing a plasma bubble. An optical collector transmits the light waves to both a high and a low range spectrometer. Then the spectrometers measure 10 or more contaminate wear metals, iron, copper, lead etc. in parts per million (PPM).

The IR module features an optical infrared light source, with a flow-through cell, and a detector. Light at wavelengths specific to physical condition of interest are transmitted through the oil in the flow-through cell onto the detector and measured in absorbance units. The higher the concentration of a source of contamination, the less IR light is transmitted through the oil and onto the detector. The OSA4-M will then determining the useful life of the lubricant, and detect water, glycol, soot etc.

The integrated central processor (CPU) gathers the data from the AE, the IR, and the optional Viscometer when installed. The numbers are generated and then through a set of algorithms, the diagnostic statements are written. The CPU also stores the data for doing Trend Analysis. Maintenance Diagnostics printouts are available in minutes, not days or weeks.

The benefits of doing true oil analysis, on-site, includes the security of information, reduction of man-hours to determine maintenance issues, improve troop and equipment logistics, readiness, and drastically cut oil and filter costs by changing oil and filters on an as-needed basis, instead of on a calendar basis. It also lowers the cost of the analysis itself while at the same time expanding the technical knowledge of the troops.

The OSA4-M is a rugged and reliable Oil Analysis Lab that is as easy to use as and ATM. The OSA4-M produces lab quality diagnostic reports with a high level of repeatability.

Typical OSA4-M test are less than $2.00 per sample, compared to $11.00 or more to ship them out. OSA4-M, when you can’t afford to wait.
